Tracing the Hand / Translation & Transformation
Tracing the Hand / Translation & Transformation
Day 1: Sunday, November 17th, 2024
Day 2: Sunday, November 24th, 2024
Time: 10 AM - 1 PM
Description: Each participant will three-dimensionally scan a handmade item and then, utilizing *soft-tools, reimagine and transform them into something they were not. The translation from physical to virtual will then, once again, be translated into physical form by three-dimensionally printing the models in designer plastic (3D filament printing).
*soft tools = 3D modeling software
Lab hours: Additional lab hours between the two workshop sessions will be available for students to troubleshoot issues with a lab tech. Lab hours are as follows:
Tuesday 11/19, 1 PM - 4 PM
Thursday 11/21, 1 PM - 4 PM
Skill level: This workshop is open to beginners and all skill levels.
Learning outcomes: Participants will learn how to 3D scan using a simple, free application for smartphones, then manipulate the resulting 3D model in Blender (a free, robust, 3D modeling software), how to prepare the model to be printed using a “slicer” and finally 3D print their reimagined handmade item in plastic.
What to bring: A handmade item
Optional additional items to bring: A charged laptop with a graphics card, a computer mouse, and a smart device (iPhone, Android, iPad, etc)
