Over the course of 8 weeks, this class will guide you through the fundamentals of wheel-throwing. From mastering the basics of wedging and centering to creating vessels and glazing them, you'll gain the skills and confidence to embark on your own ceramic journey. Led by experienced instructor Gaby, this course emphasizes both process and product, helping you build your skills week by week.
Price: $380 (one 25lb bag of clay, glazes, firings, instruction, and drop-in open studio time included). Tools ($15 +tax for a toolkit) and additional clay ($15-$37 for a 20-25 lb bag) are available for purchase at the studio.
Term 6 Syllabus
8-Week Class Timeline:
Classes run for three hours and include demonstrations and hands-on instruction from your instructor.
Week 1 Introductions. Get clay, tools, and lockers. Begin classwork.
Week 2 Work week
Week 3 Work week
Week 4 Work week. Glaze demo. Begin glazing projects that are ready.
Week 5 Work week
Week 6 Work week. Last week to create new work on the wheel.
Week 7 Students are allowed to trim, but no new wet work. Celebrate with
instructors and clean out class shelves entirely.
Week 8 Open studio hours to glaze independently outside of class time (no
instructor present). Lockers must be cleared out entirely.
Term 6 Key Dates:
Last week to finish all greenware: Week 7
Last day to put greenware on the shelves to be fired: Sunday, November 30th
All class shelves to be cleared out by: Sunday, November 30th
Open studio glazing week: Monday, December 1st - Sunday, December 7th
Lockers to be cleared out by: Sunday, December 7th
Oldest 3 bisque carts will be recycled on: Monday, December 8th
Oldest finished glazed work will be donated on: Monday, December 8th
Studio Closed: November 27th and 28th for Thanksgiving
Lab Hours:
Along with the 3 hours per week of class instruction, students have on average, an additional 23 hours per week for the first 7 weeks of the session to practice independently (23 x 7 = 161 additional hours total). The 8th week of class is completely open for students to come in outside of their regular class time to finish glazing.
Tuesdays: 3pm - 8pm
Fridays: 10am - 4pm
Saturdays: 10am - 4pm
Sundays: 10am - 4pm
Lab hours are subject to change during in-service or event days. Students will be notified in advance if this occurs.
Firing Guidelines:

Artwork more than ¾” will not be fired.

Unsigned artwork will not be fired.

Artwork that has severe cracking while on the greenware cart will not be fired.

No outside clay or glazes will be processed through the communal firings. If you would like to use outside clay/glazes, please inquire about scheduling a private kiln rental or custom glaze order.
Class Cancellation Policy:

Cancellation 10 or more days prior to the start date: 100% refund or 100% credit applied to future class.

Cancellation 3-9 days prior to the start date: 100% credit applied to a future class.

Cancellation less than 3 days before a class or workshop starts, or during a class session is NOT eligible for refund or credit.
