Glazing Session: Thursday April 10th, 10 AM - 1 PM
Firing Session: Friday April 11th, 10 AM - 1 PM
Description: Experience the excitement of raku firing, a dynamic ceramics process known for its unpredictable and stunning surface effects. This workshop spans two days:
On Thursday, we'll begin by applying specialized raku glazes to your bisque-fired pieces. The following day, during the firing session, we'll place the glazed pieces into an raku kiln until they reach red-hot temperatures. Once removed, the work is quickly transferred into combustible materials, creating unique crackles, flashes, and metallic finishes.
This workshop is open to all skill levels and offers a unique opportunity to experiment and explore the beauty of raku.
Additional Information:
Materials: Bring your own bisque-fired pieces - Please note that any work to be fired must fit within a 5" x 5" x 5" size limitation per participant. Bring one to two pieces (expect one). Alternatively, participants may choose from the abandoned bisqueware to glaze and fire. Clay with grog and pieces with few appendages work best. Participants are welcome to bring horsehair and feathers to decorate the pots as well.
