Instructor: Michael Adcock

Instructor Bio: Michael began his studies in Art History and Ceramics at the University of California at Santa Cruz. Working under the guidance of the distinguished potter and teacher, Al Johnsen, and later becoming his apprentice, he graduated with honors in 1972 with a combined degree in Ceramics and Art History. After working for several years honing his skills as a studio potter, he discovered the beautiful stone-like surfaces of sagger and smoke-firing and began to collaborate with Christine, a basket weaver on a unique line of clay and fiber vessels. Michael spent nearly 40 years exhibiting his work at the premier art and craft festivals throughout the United States; including the Smithsonian Craft Show, the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show, and many others, winning many awards for his innovative work. When the Covid pandemic hit in 2020, all of the shows shut down and Michael took this opportunity to shift his focus to teaching, which he now greatly enjoys; passing on his ceramic skills to his students. In his classes, his focus is on developing a strong foundation in the basic techniques of wheel thrown pottery. Michael and Christine’s work can be viewed on their website, www.adcockstudios.com
